(279) Finding a bit of stability

[Private journal entry written on Monday, December 7, 2009]

Towards the end of the day yesterday, I was finally able to get my butt out of bed. My housemates were still out of the house, so I got in a couple of hours of piano practice on the showier pieces. I figure I’ll prepare them . . . worse case, I won’t play them and I’ll have to scramble at the last minute to prepare less difficult pieces. I’d rather have to go that way then to scramble to prepare the showier pieces at the last minute.

Playing the piano really soothed my soul – even though I was playing under the stress of a deadline. There is just something so healing about playing the piano. It lifted my spirits and my depressed state improved dramatically.

The two showier pieces (“How Great Thou Art”, which I played in the video I posted a while back, and the “Hallelujah Chorus”) are coming along well.

I am still concerned about getting them memorized . . . so, I created a back-up plan. Today, I asked the print shop owner (landlord of the new piano studio) if she would be my page turner . . . she is an active member of the Rotary, so she will be there anyway. Since she plays piano, she will know how to turn pages. She said that would be fine.

And, today, I took one of my new business cards (just picked them up today!) over to the cute guy I met a couple of weeks ago. I walked the four blocks over to his office despite the frigid temperature outside . . . I needed to get some sunshine.

He was in the office and he seemed genuinely glad to see me. We visited for a few moments; then I headed back home.

So, after a rough weekend, it seems my week is off to a better start. I hope so!

  1. It sounds like a nice day – and that music is very important to you.

I’m really looking forward to hearing what happens at the concert.

    • Hey, Evan –

Thank you . . . music is very important to my soul, I’m learning!

      – Marie

  2. I don’t know how I missed the videos of you playing, but – absolutely loved it! You are ubber-talented! Hope all goes well with the rotary!

    • Thank you, Ivory . . .

      I’m blushing! LOL

      – Marie
